FOR ORGANIZERS

Make the rules part of the show

A strong regatta starts with a clear material standard, inspection process, safety plan, launch sequence, and definition of what constitutes finishing with dignity. The public should understand the challenge before the first boat touches water.

The Thistlewack yard can help think through the cardboard-specific parts of an event concept. Permits, water safety, insurance, rescue coverage, and site control remain the responsibility of qualified organizers and local authorities.

PARTICIPATION

Lower the mystery, keep the challenge

Entrants are more likely to build when they understand displacement, stability, seams, and the specific race rules. The yard's Schoolhouse and Buoyancy Reckoner give first-time crews a place to begin without prescribing identical boats.

  • A public builder briefing and rules walkthrough
  • Educational links for entrants and spectators
  • Inspection criteria written in plain language
  • Awards for speed, construction, spirit, and the honorable sink
