A LOCAL SHIPYARD OF NATIONAL CONSEQUENCE

Cardboard vessels from a proper maritime town

Newburyport has sent working boats into the Atlantic for centuries. Newburyport Cardboard Boat Builder serves a more specialized fleet: racing vessels designed to carry crews across ponds, lakes, and municipal waterfronts before an attentive crowd.

Capt. Dan builds each hull by hand in Newburyport, selecting corrugated stock, orienting flutes, laying out bulkheads, scoring chines, and inspecting every seam. The materials are humble. The standard is not.

THE COMMISSION

Purpose-built for the crew and the regatta

No two race courses, crew rosters, or family expectations are identical. A commission begins with the number of paddlers, race rules, transport limits, desired theme, and the acceptable definition of a dignified finish.

  • Family and multi-person cardboard race boats
  • Race-rule review and technical inspection preparation
  • Hull naming, livery, and ceremonial pennant consultation
  • Regional service for New England cardboard boat events
